Did you know that bamboo is used to make super eco-friendly solid wood flooring and flat boards? With increasing pressure on our natural forests, "green" timber is getting harder to come by. Developments in manufacturing techniques have produced a solid wood replacement using bamboo strips.
Solid bamboo flooring is as hard as Red Oak. The flooring plank is solid bamboo all the way through, so you get that warm solid wood floor feeling underfoot. Eco-Logic Bamboo have a specially designed 10 mm thick DIY Solid Bamboo flooring plank - it has an easy to fit click lock system and the underlay is pre-installed - so all you have to do is seal the screed from moisture, cut to size and "click" away.
Why is bamboo green?
Ever heard the term "green-washing"? That's when a product is called "green", but really isn't. Bamboo has all the makings of a great green resource as;
• it's sustainable - that means the ecological balance is conserved by avoiding the depletion of natural resources
• it's rapidly renewable - meaning that it is not permanently depleted when used, bamboo is a grass, and anyone who has to mow the lawn knows how quickly grass grows (bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet)
• it's 100% recyclable
• its absorbs up to 5x more CO2 from the atmosphere than a natural forest of similar size
When it comes to architectural bamboo (bamboo flooring & boards), there are a couple of things to check to see if the product is as green as it can be;
• does the bamboo originate from a FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) certified source? (yes is the "green" answer)
• does the product off-gas Formaldehyde (a know Cancer causing substance) from the glues used in manufacturing? (no is the "green" answer)
