The history of the farm dates back to the year 1806.

Mooiplaas as it exists today was formed in the 1800's when Jan Christoffel Bosman became the first owner. Nicolaas Roos acquired the property in 1963, and has been home to the Roos family ever since.

Depicted on our label is the Cape Dutch Manor House, a rare example of the H-shape with a neo-classical gable with the date 1833 engraved. On 20 October 1989, the Manor House was declared a National Monument.

Nature Conservancy
Mooiplaas Nature Conservancy was established in 1995 and covers approximately 50 hectares. The main goal is to conserve the Renosterveld Fynbos, of which there is only 1% left in the Western Cape today. Renosterveld is of international concern for its medicinal values. Many animals also depend on Renosterveld, as it forms a large part of their natural habitat.

Olives
Mooiplaas also grows makes and bottles its own olives from the 32-year old olive trees lining the dusty road to the farm.

"I only drink Champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone.
When I have company I consider it obligatory.
I trifle with it if I'm not hungry and I drink it when I am.
Otherwise I never touch it, unless I'm thirsty."
