Freedom is the most important life line for both of us and after re-uniting in London it was a matter of months before we decided to quit perfectly good jobs and go it alone. The thing that scared us most in life was living a life without full consciousness – getting stuck on a treadmill not being fully awake and inspired at every moment, every day. It was important for us to be able to wake up every morning with a mission that would allow us to strive towards making this world a better place. We are both frustrated by the state of the planet and we wanted to do more.
We decided to start new ventures in online marketing and made a promise that as soon as funds allowed, we would put aside time to start a project that would benefit the people around us and the environment we live in. Other forces were at play however and we were able to realise this goal sooner than we expected.
We were concerned about the lack of transparency in cosmetic labelling and when we came back to South Africa we were quite alarmed by how little attention this global trend was getting. Most health shops we went into stocked products that looked natural but when we tried to find ingredient lists, they either were not there or they were filled with potentially harmful synthetic ingredients.
“It frustrated me that I had no way of knowing which beauty products were better than others. I have always been very involved with my beauty purchases as I love experimenting with different smells and textures. I am a firm believer that if you feel beautiful from within, you will naturally shine on the outside. I don’t wear make up, preferring to go for the natural look, but taking care in my beauty routine, indulging in scents and long baths made me feel beautiful. The problem was the more aware I became that I actually had no idea of what I was really putting on my skin, or no way of discerning between manufacturers the less I wanted to put anything on my skin it all. It quite literally freaked me out. And what was once a very relaxing and grounding ritual was now no longer.” Robyn
Of course the light finally went on and it became to clear to us, how this frustration could be channelled into a venture that we truly felt would make a difference. After much research, long nights, tears, screams of excitement and more mistakes than we care to admit, we are proud to bring you Faithful to Nature.
It is our quest, to share the knowledge and make available the resource that will help you to be more discerning and conscious as to what you allow into your body, your children’s bodies and the environment. We hope that this will be the start of a journey towards living sustainably and securing the future of your children’s children.
